Austin, TX – On Friday, November 8, the Magnolia Historical Society will open The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall for members of the community to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. “As Veterans Day approaches, we are all reminded of the selfless acts of all fallen soldiers, and must continue to honor their memory and support our current armed servicemen and women,” said State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr., whose district includes the City of Magnolia.
An opening ceremony will be held at the Magnolia Apostolic Church/First Baptist Church grounds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday November 8th, where Texas Land Commissioner, Jerry Paterson, will provide the keynote address. The wall will be available for viewing through the weekend and on Veterans Day, November 11, each day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Traveling Memorial is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C., standing six feet tall and spanning nearly 300 feet from end to end. The Traveling Memorial serves as a reminder of the sacrifices of those who served valiantly during the Vietnam War and gives those who cannot visit Washington the chance to pay respect to loved ones in their own town. This opportunity will not be available to Texans again for the next few years, as the wall will continue to move throughout the country.
